Artist Biography
I'm a Pacific Northwest native, born in Seattle and raised in Portland. I received a BA degree in art from the University of Washington in 1973. In the fall of that year I went to Europe to meet "old world" relatives before settling down to the business of earning a living. My first job upon returning was as a counselor at a residential treatment center for adolescent girls in Yakima, WA. It was in Yakima that I bought my first house and remodeled it. That house turned out to be the first of 3 that I bought and remodeled on my own before marrying a general contractor in 1989 and taking on 5 more houses as a twosome. The majority of my working years were spent as a kitchen designer in Bellevue, WA. In 2001 my husband and I quit our jobs to take a 6 month driving trip around the US and Canada in a VW Eurovan. It was during this time that I made the decision to seriously pursue my passion for art in the form of painting. I have been actively painting and exhibiting since then, and have pieces in many private collections as well as in Harborview Hospital, Swedish Hospital, Hotel Max, International Kitchens, and Ryan Swanson & Cleveland law firm. In 2007 my husband and I became snowbirds, and our community in Green Valley, Arizona has a wonderful clay studio, to which I have become addicted. I have added a clay category to my website featuring some of my more recent work. In 2021, we moved from Seattle to Sisters, Oregon, and my paintings have veered toward rural subject matter. I now show my work at Hood Avenue Art in Sisters and occasionally at Alki Arts in Seattle.
I have intentionally avoided labeling the artwork with price and availability because I find that it’s a big job to keep it current and I am not using the website to sell, but rather to familiarize people with m work. If you are interested in either finding out what is available or in discussing a commission, I will be happy to speak with you. I have process for doing commissions that seems to result in happy customers. If, at any point, the customer wishes to abandon the project, they are free to do so without penalty. So far, nobody has chosen to do that, but it’s comforting knowing the option is there.
